My Blue Crab Series contains watercolor paintings of these beloved creatures found in the Rappahannock River at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. The Series portrays a fun and uplifting message from these beauties.
Have you ever had the pleasure of taking your tongs and dipping down into a basket full of beautiful Blue Crabs? You spot that one crab that is backed up so tightly against the side of the basket on top of the heap of his fellow crabs….just waiting for you to take a stab at getting him out. He somehow knows the likely fate he faces and is not fond of the outcome. He is ready for you!!
But you….you are the great and powerful crabber, and YOU HAVE THE TONGS! So you size him up, let him get really settled into his spot and then you POUNCE, tongs going for that most vulnerable position, avoiding the claws. You get him on the first try and up you go, only to have several “hangers-on” attached to your target.
You see, crabs look out for one another. They try to protect their buddies from misfortune and THEY STICK TOGETHER….literally. Always the chivalrous one, Jimmy tries to “save” his female companion from the extraction. She, on the other hand, is doing her part to try and keep them together, no matter what their fate may be. And the last crab way down in the bottom of the basket, having observed the repeated snatch-and-grab scenes, has resigned himself to the end result and isn’t fighting the inevitable.
Do you know what happens to BLUE CRABS once they’ve been steamed??
They turn from BLUE to ORANGE.
And they’re YUMMY!!
Blue...
Blue skies…
Blue water…
Blue crabs…
What more is there to say???
The "sand-writing" says it all!
Hope...
It’s what we all need…
It’s what we should encourage others to do…
Even the crabbiest of crabs is sharing this message with the world!
Even BLUE CRABS can get a little crabby once in a while. But on the inside, they are saying “I’m sorry! We’re cool!!”
